The Candle Form is the second transformation in Banjo-Kazooie Grunty’s Revenge, found within Bad Magic Bayou after players defeat Klungo during the boss battle inside the Monster Manor and provide Mumbo with the resulting Mumbo Token for his transformation services. Once transformed, Banjo retains his characteristic blue backpack and yellow pants while taking on the appearance of a burning candle, complete with a flame that provides illumination in otherwise inaccessible dark areas. It features a distinctive Flame Roll attack executed by pressing the B button, which enables players to enlight objects, defeat enemies, and interact with specific environmental elements. This attack proves effective against certain enemies, most notably the Green Spookos found throughout Bad Magic Bayou’s darker regions. These ghost-like enemies, which bear resemblance to the Tee-hees from Banjo-Kazooie, can only be defeated through fire-based attacks, making the Candle transformation essential for safely navigating areas where they appear. The primary application for this transformation involves accessing the Creepy Corridors, a cave system located adjacent to Mumbo’s Skull in Bad Magic Bayou, remaining too dark for normal exploration. Within the Creepy Corridors, players must navigate to the Haunted Halls, where a timed puzzle requires lighting candles in predetermined patterns across multiple rooms within 60 seconds. The puzzle consists of four distinct rooms, each featuring white candles arranged in geometric patterns including star, circle, square and triangle configurations, where players must light only the correct candles while avoiding incorrect ones that drain health and reset the entire sequence. The transformation exhibits a critical vulnerability to any form of liquid contact, including both standard water and the poisonous water that pervades Bad Magic Bayou. Contact with these substances results in immediate defeat, requiring players to exercise caution when navigating the world’s numerous tire platforms and wooden bridges that span the hazardous swamp waters. Beyond Bad Magic Bayou, the candle finds additional utility in Freezing Furnace, where players must use the Flame Roll technique to detonate explosive barrels blocking access to hidden areas. Specifically, it enables players to blow up dynamite near Mumbo’s Skull, creating access to a Jinjo that would otherwise remain unreachable. The transformation also proves necessary for melting ice cubes that block certain Jiggies or other collectibles, providing essential access to areas that remain completely inaccessible to Banjo and Kazooie in their normal state.
