The Octopus Form is the third transformation in Banjo-Kazooie Grunty’s Revenge, located within Spiller’s Harbor after beating Gruntilda near the lighthouse and provide Mumbo with the resulting Mumbo Token for his services. Once transformed, Banjo retains his characteristics while taking on the appearance of a pink-skinned octopus equipped with multiple tentacles for enhanced aquatic movement. It features a water jet attack executed by pressing the B button, which fires cyan-colored ink projectiles at high speed with minimal cooldown time between shots. While this attack deals moderate damage to enemies, its rapid firing rate makes it effective against underwater threats like Green Whiplashes and Shrapnels that inhabit the polluted waters and sewage systems throughout Spiller’s Harbor. The water jet proves useful for clearing paths through areas heavily populated with aquatic enemies that would otherwise pose significant obstacles to progression. The primary function of the Octopus Form involves navigating the polluted waters that pervade Spiller’s Harbor, which cause immediate damage to Banjo and Kazooie in their normal forms due to contamination from Gruntilda’s minions. This immunity allows access to the Murky Passage, reached through a partially submerged pipe system where strong currents carry players through treacherous underwater corridors filled with obstacles and hostile creatures. Within this passage, players have to navigate carefully to collect Musical Notes and reach a Jiggy positioned at the end of the sewage system while avoiding mines and tentacled enemies. The transformation grants enhanced jumping capabilities when in water, allowing players to leap to considerable heights from aquatic surfaces to reach elevated platforms and tall pillars that remain inaccessible through normal means. This enhanced jumping proves useful for collecting a Jiggy positioned atop a high pillar in the middle of Spiller’s Harbor’s polluted sea, requiring precise timing to leap successfully from the toxic water to the elevated platform. Beyond Spiller’s Harbor, it finds additional applications in Freezing Furnace, where it enables safe passage through freezing water that fills various caverns and underground passages. The transformation provides unlimited air supply, eliminating concerns about drowning during exploration of submerged places such as the Chilly Chasm. Players must utilize the water jet attack to defeat Stinglashes blocking passage through narrow underwater corridors, while the enhanced jumping ability allows emergence from water onto higher platforms that contain items. Interestingly, the Octopus Form the only transformation capable of surviving contact with harmful water in both Spiller’s Harbor and Freezing Furnace, making it essential for accessing specific areas and completing puzzles.
