Piranha Form

The Piranha Form is the third available transformation in the original Yooka-Laylee, found within Moodymaze Marsh after players find the Mollycool within a cylinder on the lake floor and provide it to Dr. Puzz to power her D.N.Ray machine. The Mollycool requires players to first complete Jolly the Trolley’s water cleaning quest by activating filters throughout the area, then use Bubble Walk to reach the cylinder and Sonar ‘Splosion to destroy the mushrooms blocking access to the collectible. Once transformed, Yooka and Laylee assume the appearance of a school consisting of eighteen individual piranhas, with eleven resembling Yooka and seven Laylee, all equipped with prominent sharp teeth for attacking enemies and obstacles. The Piranha Form grants unlimited underwater breathing capabilities, enabling indefinite exploration of submerged areas throughout Moodymaze Marsh without concerns about air supply. This aquatic adaptation provides access to narrow underwater passages and specialized areas such as the Dusky Duct, which contains electrical tubes and patrolling Corplet Marines that guard the deeper areas of the marsh’s underwater network. The primary combat ability involves a bite attack that can devour enemies and destroy environmental obstacles such as thorny barriers that protect collectibles positioned on the lake floor. This attack proves essential for completing rescue missions, particularly freeing Dolly who becomes trapped beneath a pile of bones in the Dusky Duct’s deepest chamber. The bite attack can clear these bone accumulations that would otherwise remain immovable to normal forms. The Piranha Form can traverse thorn-blocked pipes that serve as shortcuts between major locations, like connections to the Murky Passage and other submerged areas containing valuable collectibles and progression items. However, the Piranha Form restricts movement exclusively to aquatic environments, preventing exploration of land-based sections while the transformation remains active. Players must return to Dr. Puzz’s D.N.Ray platform to revert to normal form when land-based navigation becomes necessary for accessing areas above water level.
