The Walrus form is the third available transformation in Banjo-Kazooie, located within Freezeezy Peak after players provide Mumbo Jumbo with fifteen Mumbo Tokens for his transformation services. This brown walrus form enables navigation through Freezeezy Peak’s frigid waters without sustaining damage, while allowing access to confined places that prove inaccessible to Banjo and Kazooie. Unlike other transformations in Banjo-Kazooie, the Walrus form does not serve any puzzle-solving function within Gruntilda’s Lair, making it unique among the available transformations for its world-specific applications. The transformation plays an important role in Boggy the polar bear’s sled racing challenges, where he initially declares that Banjo appears too large for the available sled. Upon transformation into the walrus, Boggy becomes willing to race, requiring players to navigate through slalom gates while maintaining sufficient speed to avoid automatic disqualification. Success in this initial race rewards players with a Jiggy, after which Boggy challenges the protagonists to a second race using their standard form, though victory requires the Turbo Trainers learned in Gobi’s Valley, making Freezeezy Peak the only world in Banjo-Kazooie that cannot be completed entirely during the first visit. The transformation also proves crucial for interacting with Wozza, another walrus who retreats into his cave when approached by Banjo and Kazooie in their normal forms due to bears being predators of walruses. When approached as a walrus, he becomes enthusiastic and presents the disguised duo with a Jiggy while warning them about a smelly brown bear and his ugly bird partner before retreating to his cave. Within Wozza’s Cave, players can access the Orange Jinjo positioned in an elevated alcove, while the transformation enables passage through a submerged tunnel leading to an Extra Honeycomb Piece. The cave also houses the famous Ice Key behind an unbreakable transparent ice wall, accessible only through a special code entered at Treasure Trove Cove’s sandcastle. While the Ice Key has no purpose within the Banjo-Kazooie game itself, it unlocks the Mega-Glowbo in Banjo-Tooie and provides British flag vehicle parts in Banjo-Kazooie Nuts & Bolts when collected.
