Blamphibian Angler

Blamphibian Angler banner placeholder

Blamphibian Angler is a frog-like fisherman who hosts the Star Fishing minigame in Yooka-Laylee's Galleon Galaxy. He returns in Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair with a missing fishing rod and an unusual way of changing Capital Causeway, while Yooka-Replaylee gives him the name Todd Pole and expands his fishing challenge. His appearance combines an amphibian's wide mouth, prominent eyes, long limbs and webbed feet with the equipment of a recreational angler. He wears a brimmed fishing hat decorated with tackle, a pocketed vest and a shoulder bag, and carries a rod with a fish hanging from its line. His green and yellow colouring is broken up by orange patches, particularly around his face and limbs. The original fishing spot is shaded by a bright umbrella with red and lime-green panels. His relaxed manner and repeated croaking exclamation suit the quiet pastime he describes, although the conversation hints that he took it up after less pleasant experiences. The Angler is a separate individual from Galleon Galaxy's Blamphibian Recruiter and its golf-course attendant; their other challenges do not form part of his fishing task.

Blamphibian Angler in Yooka-Laylee

The Angler waits on a wooden pier near Rusto, the giant robot in the expanded version of Galleon Galaxy. Opening this Grand Tome in Hivory Towers costs 12 Pagies, and expanding it costs another 15. From the pirate ship behind the island occupied by Trowzer and Vendi, the nearby transport tube on the left leads toward this part of the world. Take the wooden ramp beside the arrival point to reach the small fishing pier beneath the colourful umbrella. If the duo arrive while using Dr. Puzz's Space Ship transformation, return to the D.N.Ray and change back before taking part in the character's tongue-based minigame. Speaking to him introduces what he considers a galaxy-famous sport: catching the stars that fall around the platform beyond the pier. He treats the activity as a peaceful, civilised way to spend his days, then lets slip that it helped him escape an unhappy earlier period. Laylee notices the ominous implication, but the conversation never explains what happened or connects it to the other Blamphibians. The Angler remains welcoming and offers the duo a prize for surpassing his personal best. Declining leaves the offer available for a later visit. Accepting begins the fishing attempt, with Yooka's tongue taking the place of the rod the host expects his guests to use.

Star Fishing Challenge

The original Star Fishing round takes place on the small circular platform beside the pier and lasts 30 seconds. Yellow and red stars descend around its edge, so the player must turn Yooka toward each useful target and catch it with his tongue before it falls out of reach. Each yellow star adds one point; each red star removes one. The required result is a score of 15, rather than simply swallowing 15 yellow stars regardless of penalties. Although the Angler's invitation asks for more than 15, a final counter of 15/15 is sufficient to win. The tongue-collection action uses Slurp Shot, which Trowzer teaches in Tribalstack Tropics for 30 Quills if it has not been purchased. It does not require lashing onto the stars as grapple points. Keep watching around the platform instead of waiting for targets to pass directly in front of the starting position, and avoid a red star when it overlaps a yellow one. An unsuccessful attempt leaves the Pagie locked away and allows another try. On success, the Angler acknowledges that the duo have beaten his record and opens the Cagie on the pier for one Pagie. He admits that he had intended to fold the living page into an origami fishing lure, but honours the promised reward. Laylee then questions his own technique, since he has not caught anything while they have been watching. He explains that he normally waits with his mouth open and hopes a star will fall into it, and considers trying Yooka's tongue method instead. Once this Pagie has been collected, the conversation does not offer a second rewarded round. Stars can still be caught around the platform, and leaving and re-entering the world returns the Angler to a seated position beneath his umbrella.

Blamphibian Angler in The Impossible Lair

In Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, the Angler first appears at the southeastern edge of the beach, beside a cave entrance south of the lighthouse. This is a later overworld encounter: the normal route reaches the beach after opening Trowzer's fifth paywall. A nearby Pagie challenge first removes the tree stumps blocking that paywall, after which Trowzer charges 25 T.W.I.T. Coins to open it. Explore the lower-right corner of the beach to find the fisherman obstructing the cave. He has lost his rod, which is actually on a high ledge near the beginning of the game, above the first Planker and close to the Capital Causeway book. Talking to him supplies the connection between these distant places and sends him back to recover it. Yooka does not have to pick up the rod and carry it across the overworld; the Angler makes that journey himself once told where it is. The rod can be noticed before meeting its owner, but the beach conversation is the interaction that moves him. His departure also frees the cave entrance. The passage provides a route toward Shipwreck Creek, where the cannon can be asked to turn around and then struck to knock down a bridge, making a shortcut back toward the starting area. The task continues there rather than ending at the now-empty beach. Return to the first chapter book and look above it for the fisherman reunited with his rod. His new position is important, since speaking from below does not trigger the change he can now make to the chapter.

Fishing in Capital Causeway

Reach the Angler's new fishing ledge by climbing the Beettalion tents on the western side of Queen Phoebee's position near the Impossible Lair entrance. Rescued soldiers build these tents as they join the team, creating the steps used to reach the upper route. Follow that ledge around toward the first chapter book and speak to the Angler at his own elevation. The Tick...Tock... Tonic can also be found along this upper route, but it is a separate collectible. With his rod recovered, the Angler casts into the Capital Causeway book. His line catches something far larger than an ordinary fish: he reels a substantial part of the town out of its pages. Removing that scenery changes Chapter 1 into Capital Causeway - Chaos, a ruined version with a different route through the town. The chapter retains its original number despite this alternate state usually being discovered much later than the opening level. Subsequent conversations with the fisherman let him lower the town back into the book or lift it out again, so the normal and Chaos versions remain available. Unlocking the altered book is only the overworld part of the task. Entering and completing Chaos is required to rescue its Beettalion member, Cam Beegle, and its five T.W.I.T. Coins must be collected within that version of the chapter. These are separate from the normal Capital Causeway route and its rescued soldier, Buzzerland. Cam Beegle then joins the force protecting the duo in the Impossible Lair, contributing another hit of protection when they attempt Capital B's stronghold.

Todd Pole in Yooka-Replaylee

Yooka-Replaylee identifies the fisherman as Todd Pole in his dialogue nameplate. He still occupies a wooden fishing spot near Rusto, reached by crossing from the back of the pirate ship toward the robot's island and climbing onto the platform to the left. The umbrella, rod and falling-star platform remain recognisable, but two Pagies now wait in Cagies on the dock. Speak to Todd and accept his offer, then take position on the circular platform for the round. The first challenge gives the duo one minute to reach a score of 20. Yellow stars add to the counter and red stars count against it, so keeping a clear view of the falling targets remains central to the task. Reaching 20 releases the first Pagie, which can be collected from its opened cage on the dock. Todd then offers a second challenge to beat his higher record, this time requiring 30 stars within one minute and 30 seconds. Complete that round to open the other Cagie and collect the second Pagie. The original game's single 15-star, 30-second contest therefore does not describe the remake's rewards or either of its timers. Todd's dialogue retains his account of taking up peaceful fishing after bad days, now presented through the remake's named conversation box. Replaylee also makes the expanded Grand Tomes and the duo's moves available from the start, so the original game's 15-Pagie world expansion and Slurp Shot purchase are not extra costs for this encounter.
