Blamphibian Recruiter

Blamphibian Recruiter banner placeholder

The Blamphibian Recruiter is a frog-like character who supervises the Galactic Strength Test in Galleon Galaxy, the fifth Grand Tome world of Yooka-Laylee. He stands beside the High Striker Machine, a towering fairground attraction with a Pagie enclosed in glass at its summit. His large eyes, broad mouth and webbed feet identify him with the world's other Blamphibians, while his athletic clothing and dumbbells distinguish his interest in physical training. He wears a headband, a pale blue-and-white vest, purple shorts and sports shoes, and repeatedly curls the weights during conversation. The strength test is also a recruitment exercise: he hopes to find contestants capable of serving as Blamphibian fighters. Yooka and Laylee can satisfy him by combining the weight of a cannonball with a Buddy Slam from the tower's top. He returns in Yooka-Replaylee under the name Reps Tillian, where the same broad challenge awards the Strongman Slam Pagie.

Finding the Blamphibian Recruiter

The Recruiter's attraction stands on a small island in the expanded version of Galleon Galaxy, close to the rounded building housing Black Hole in One. In the original game, entering this Grand Tome costs 12 Pagies and expanding it costs another 15. The newly revealed islands and their transport links make both the strength test and the golf course available. The machine is easy to identify by its vertical numbered scale, oversized portrait of the athletic frog and large red striking pad decorated with a gold star. Red-and-white platforms form a stepped route around its side, leading towards the glass enclosure above. A group of smaller islets stretches out in front of the attraction, with a crate of cannonballs on the farthest one. Inspect those resources before making the final climb, since reaching the Pagie from below or landing on its enclosure does not release it. The Recruiter remains at ground level beside the machine rather than accompanying the duo up the platforms.

The Galactic Strength Test

Speaking to the Recruiter introduces his test as a way to judge prospective recruits. He tells the duo that a sufficiently strong performance will let them claim the golden artefact and become fully armed Blamphibians. His language presents the Pagie as a prize for martial ability, with encouragement to hit the striking platform as hard as possible. A normal Buddy Slam makes the machine respond but fails to drive its indicator high enough to break the glass at the top. Repeating that same action from the ground does not gradually fill a strength meter or wear down the enclosure. Even a high ordinary slam lacks the required force. The surrounding tower and the cannonballs supply the two parts missing from the first attempt: height and extra weight. The machine provides visible feedback through the moving indicator, allowing the player to see the difference between an unsuccessful impact and the blow that finally reaches the prize.

Preparing Metal Yooka

The original puzzle uses two moves bought earlier in the adventure. Buddy Slam costs 30 Quills from Trowzer in Tribalstack Tropics, while Slurp State costs 40 Quills from him in Glitterglaze Glacier. The first supplies the downward impact and the second lets Yooka absorb the properties of the nearby cannonballs. If either move was skipped, return to the appropriate Grand Tome and purchase it before attempting the full solution. Cross the small islands in front of the strength tester and use Yooka's tongue on the cannonball crate. The resulting metal state visibly changes his body and makes the duo heavier. This is a temporary Slurp State effect, rather than one of Dr. Puzz's D.N.Ray transformations, so it does not require a Mollycool or a visit to her machine. Return to the tower while the effect is active. The platforms provide an ascent route, and Flappy Flight offers a quicker way to reach the upper ledge when sufficient power is available.

Breaking the Glass Enclosure

With the metal state active, reach the top of the strength tester and position the duo above the large red pad at its base. Jump out from the upper ledge and use Buddy Slam so the weighted descent lands on the star-marked surface. Dropping from the top supplies the height needed to make the cannonball's extra weight count. The successful strike sends the indicator to the summit and shatters the Pagie's glass enclosure. The reward remains above the machine, so climb or fly back up and collect the now-accessible Pagie. One successful weighted slam is enough; the puzzle does not require a sequence of alternating attacks or repeated paid attempts. If the enclosure stays intact, check that the metal effect is still active and that the descent began from the upper level. Missing the pad or using an ordinary slam can produce movement in the machine without completing the task. The nearby small red control is distinct from the large surface on which the duo must land.

The Recruiter’s Reaction

The Recruiter responds to the successful impact with astonishment, asking how the duo managed to hit the machine so hard. He then congratulates his recruits and declares that they have proved themselves as fully qualified war machines. His final remarks imagine the Blamphibians' enemies trembling at the arrival of a new green-and-purple fighter, treating Yooka and Laylee's combined appearance as the sign of a single impressive recruit. The exchange turns a collectible puzzle into a joke about military enthusiasm and his willingness to accept an unusual candidate. It also follows his earlier promise that obtaining the artefact would qualify them as fully armed Blamphibians. The player receives the Pagie opened by the machine; there is no subsequent deployment or separate combat mission attached to this recruitment. His dialogue celebrates the feat even though the practical solution depended on borrowed weight, giving the result a different explanation from the physical strength he believes he has witnessed.

Reps Tillian in Yooka-Replaylee

Yooka-Replaylee gives the Recruiter the name Reps Tillian and keeps him beside the strength tester. He still welcomes prospective recruits to the Galactic Strength Test and promises the golden artefact to contestants who can hit the bell hard enough. When Yooka questions the recruitment, Tillian says that aliens are not normally considered but accepts the duo's shade of green as a promising qualification. His distinctive training clothes, dumbbells and imposing machine remain recognisable. The collectible is named Strongman Slam, and its solution still combines a metal state with a high Buddy Slam. Smash the wooden crates on the nearby wooden platform to uncover the metal-ball source, absorb it, then climb the stepped platforms behind Tillian to the glass container at the top. Jump out and slam the ground-level pad to break the enclosure and free one Pagie. In this version, the released Pagie descends to the area beside the pad, where it can be collected after Tillian's congratulations. The remake provides the duo's normal moves from the beginning, removing the original purchases as a prerequisite. The extra weight and the tower-height descent are still necessary parts of this particular task; Tillian does not teach a new ability called Strongman Slam.
