Cashino Bandit

Cashino Bandit banner placeholder

The Cashino Bandits, also called Slot Bandits, are talking slot-machine characters who run challenges and request favours in Yooka-Laylee's Capital Cashino. There are five quest givers in the original world, offering a card retrieval, a memory game, a gliding course, a golf challenge and a job clearing the power room. Several return in Yooka-Replaylee with individual names and revised challenges. Their bodies resemble small upright fruit machines, with engraved metallic panels, three reels beneath their eyes, a payout opening and a single side lever ending in a red knob. The reels move as part of their expressive faces, while the eyes and elaborate moustaches distinguish them from the larger gambling machines standing around the casino. Their clothes vary between encounters: some wear patterned neckerchiefs, while others have hats and waistcoats. The original cabinets have a bronze or gold appearance; the remake gives the returning hosts a brighter red finish and more prominent eyes. Their conversations repeatedly promise easy winnings before slipping into references to scams, robbery and stolen wallets. The original Bandits' voices are provided by Jordan Sweeto, who is listed among the game's Special Guest Voice Overs. Their name plays on the expression one-armed bandit for a slot machine.

Cashino Bandits in Yooka-Laylee

Capital Cashino is the fourth Grand Tome world. Opening its book in Hivory Towers costs ten Pagies, and expanding it costs another eleven. The duo must use Camo Cloak to pass the security cameras at the entrance; Trowzer teaches that move for free in Hivory Towers before this part of the adventure. Once inside the main casino, four of the Bandits can be found without expanding the world. The card owner stands outside the House of Cards, the matching-game host waits beside the floor tiles below the golf course, the gliding host occupies a high red die near the golden-dice structure, and the golfer is at the elevated course's starting tee. The fifth host is inside Wager Laser, whose entrance opens after expansion. Completing each host's original task earns five Casino Tokens. These are taken to the Casino Banker near the entrance, who exchanges ten tokens for a Pagie. A successful Bandit challenge therefore contributes to that exchange instead of awarding a Pagie directly. Loose tokens found along a route remain separate from the host's completion reward. Yooka-Replaylee changes the conversion to five tokens per Pagie through Cashital Zee, so a five-token prize there is enough for a complete exchange. Its worlds are already expanded and the duo's moves are available from the beginning, removing the original expansion and move-purchase prerequisites for the returning challenges.

Retrieving the Special Card

The Bandit outside the House of Cards wears a broad hat, a curled moustache and a patterned waistcoat. His problem is a missing special playing card held inside the building behind him. Speak to him and agree to help so that he raises an access ramp beside the entrance. Reptile Rush is needed to break through the cracked glass above it; Trowzer sells this charged rolling attack in Capital Cashino for 80 Quills. Charge the move at the foot of the ramp and release it to launch the duo through the window. Before entering, look beneath the raised ramp for a loose Casino Token that is easily missed. Inside, the route passes through ramps and electrical barriers. Time each charge around the moving fences and collect the tokens along the way, including the group of three on the later ramp. Five loose tokens are found inside, in addition to the one outside. The final room contains a tower of eight glass boxes with the Special Card, an Ace of Spades, in the top box. Corplets emerge repeatedly from the surrounding pipes, so defeating the current enemies does not remove the real obstacle. Use Reptile Rush to smash the lowest remaining box, bringing the rest of the tower down, and repeat until the card can be collected. Taking it opens the exit. Return to the waiting Bandit outside and hand it over for five more tokens. The six loose tokens and the five-token hand-in make eleven associated with the complete original route. The owner is named Handle Barr in Yooka-Replaylee. He blames the loss on a gang of youths and openly complains that he cannot rig his poker games without the special card. He still raises the ramp and asks for the card from the central glass tower; returning it earns five Cashino Tokens.

The Casino Tile Puzzle

At ground level below the golf course, near Vendi, another Bandit stands beside a square board of sixteen question-mark tiles. Speaking to him starts a memory challenge. The pictures are shown briefly before the tiles turn over, giving the player an opportunity to remember the positions of eight matching pairs. Use Buddy Slam to reveal one tile, then another bearing the same picture. Correct pairs stay face up; a mismatched selection turns back over without removing pairs already completed. The original time limit is one minute and 30 seconds, and revealing all eight pairs awards five Casino Tokens. Buddy Slam is taught by Trowzer in Tribalstack Tropics for 30 Quills if it has not been learned. The pictures include the Ghost Writers and familiar characters such as Rextro and Trowzer, but the arrangement is shuffled, so a fixed sequence of positions is not a reliable solution. Work from the initial preview and remember the identity of any tile revealed by a mistake. The host describes his attraction as the casino's most profitable game, accidentally promising that its customers will be robbed before correcting himself. His mention of 3,000 attempts is a sales-pitch joke, not the number of tries required to earn the prize. In Yooka-Replaylee he is named Max Bet. The board still has sixteen tiles and the round still uses a 90-second timer; completing it earns five tokens toward the Matching Madness Pagie exchange.

The Gliding Challenge

The gliding Bandit is reached by climbing the red dice beneath the elevated golf course, beside the larger golden-dice structure. He wears a neckerchief and offers a route through the fans and platforms around that structure. Accepting his challenge starts a two-minute, ten-second trial in the original game. Every red-and-white hoop must be passed before the course ends. The route begins across stacks of casino chips, then uses air vents to carry the duo toward higher platforms. Hold the glide move in an updraft to gain height, position carefully before crossing to the next landing and watch the moving electrical obstacles that hang beside the path. Trowzer gives the duo Glide for free in Hivory Towers earlier in the adventure. Continue around and up the golden-dice structure until the final slide carries the duo to the finish and the five-token prize. Reaching the far end without passing the required hoops does not satisfy the host's instructions. His warning about dropping a wallet during the jumps continues the joke that the casino's employees are as interested in their visitors' money as in the game. Yooka-Replaylee names him Roll Jupp and gives him a blue-and-white scarf. The revised Dicey Dash challenge follows a shorter route across red dice and fan platforms, with five hoops tracked by an on-screen counter and a one-minute timer. Passing all five before time expires earns five tokens.

The Golf Course

The golf host waits beside the golden ball at the start of the raised green course. In the original game he introduces the supposedly honest rules, then asks the duo to guide the ball to the flagged hole within two minutes and 30 seconds. Knock the ball off the tee and follow it along the course, using rolling attacks and further hits to correct its direction around the large red dice and sandy areas. Ordinary rolling can move the ball, so this task can be completed before purchasing Reptile Rush. That charged move can supply a stronger hit once learned, but it is not an additional unlock condition for the course. The course bends and changes height, so sending the ball straight ahead at full strength on every shot can carry it beyond the next useful landing. Move around the ball to line up a controlled hit toward the next section, then continue to the final green and the hole. Completing the round within the limit earns five Casino Tokens. A sixth token floats above the flag itself; this is a separate loose collectible, reached with the Chopper transformation or later flight rather than another prize from the golfer. In Yooka-Replaylee the host is Reese Spin, whose nameplate confirms that spelling. He wears a pale fur hat and a colourful patterned scarf above his moustached cabinet. The remake first offers a practice completion worth five tokens. After that success, Reese invites the duo to beat his record in a second round, with one minute and 30 seconds available for another five tokens. Use the button at the tee to produce a fresh ball when needed. The two rounds supply the Golfing Gamble and Putting Problems exchanges, so leaving after the practice run misses the second reward. Reese's invitation to beat his record belongs to this remake progression; the original task has one five-token completion prize.

The Wager Laser

The fifth original Bandit is found in the expanded world's Wager Laser area. From the main casino entrance, take the newly accessible pipe immediately to the right and follow it to the power-room gate. The moustached host regards the duo as trespassers, but offers them a favour to perform while they are there: remove the card-like Corplets occupying the machinery room. Accept his request to open the gate. Some enemies can be reached with ordinary attacks, while others stand behind glass that prevents a direct approach. Activate Camo Cloak and crouch beneath the central laser so that Yooka redirects its beam. Turn while crouched to sweep the reflected laser across the protected enemies around the room. Camo Cloak consumes power, so collect butterflies to replenish the meter or step away from the beam and let the meter recover before continuing. The move comes from Trowzer's free Hivory Towers lesson, rather than a purchase from this Bandit. Sonar 'Splosion offers an alternative way to damage enemies through the partitions; Trowzer sells that move in Moodymaze Marsh for 60 Quills. Once the Corplets are defeated, the Bandit supplies five Casino Tokens. The reward is part of the expanded casino's token collection and is exchanged with the Banker in the same way as the other hosts' winnings. This power-room request is separate from the Security Room combat encounter elsewhere in Capital Cashino, even though both involve casino enemies and a five-token reward.
