Tubbz is a living hot tub found inside Icymetric Palace in Glitterglaze Glacier, the second Grand Tome world of Yooka-Laylee. His large red body has a broad gold rim, water jets, four feet and a pair of prominent eyes mounted at one end. Stars decorate his exterior and the surrounding panels, while playing-card suits can be seen through the water inside him. His name is a variation on tubs, identifying the household object that has become a speaking character. Although steam rises from the bath, Tubbz has lost the ability to produce bubbles and needs Yooka and Laylee to restore them. The encounter gives Buddy Bubble a use beyond travelling underwater, requiring the duo to release small bubbles into the bath. Helping him opens the nearby Cagie and awards one Pagie. Tubbz returns in Yooka-Replaylee with a revised appearance and dialogue, while retaining his secluded palace room and the same unusual solution to his gas problem.
Reaching Tubbz in Icymetric Palace
Tubbz occupies a small room at the end of a branch of the palace's lower section. In the original game, spend five Pagies at Glitterglaze Glacier's Grand Tome to expand the world and make the palace accessible. Its underwater entrance leads into the lower rooms, but reaching the hot tub through the normal route also requires restoring the building's heating. Burnie, the furnace in the upper palace, is being kept cold by Brrreeze Blok. Defeat the boss inside him so the palace's steam vents begin working. Return to the lower room divided by metal bars, where a vent in the far-right corner can now lift the duo to a higher doorway. Jump above the current and use Laylee's glide to ride it up to the ledge. This takes them into the storage room preceding Tubbz. The functioning vent is an access requirement for this route; warming the palace does not itself repair the hot tub or release his Pagie.
Opening the Storage Room Passage
The room above the steam vent contains wooden crates, barrels and several doorways filled with stone blocks. Break the wooden containers to uncover a Grenade Berry Plant, then use Slurp Shot to absorb its explosive berries. Fire at the blocked doorway in the far corner to reveal the passage leading to Tubbz. Other blocked recesses can release Snow Corplets, so clearing every opening is unnecessary for reaching the bath. Inside the final chamber, Tubbz stands against the decorated wall with his Pagie locked in a Cagie beside him. The original room also contains three Quills, which can be collected independently of his repair. His size, the steam above the water and the nearby reward make the bath the room's main point of interest. Climb over the rim and enter the water to hear his complaint, then dive beneath the surface to work on the problem. The explosives are for opening the route through the previous room; the repair itself uses the duo's underwater ability.
Learning Buddy Bubble
Buddy Bubble is taught for free by Trowzer in the Archive area of Hivory Towers, on the route towards Moodymaze Marsh. It is separate from the two moves sold inside Glitterglaze Glacier, Slurp State and Lizard Leap. A player exploring the expanded second world early can therefore reach Tubbz before having the ability needed to help him. If the underwater bubble move is missing, leave the Grand Tome, progress into the Archive and speak to Trowzer before returning to the palace. The normal use surrounds Yooka and Laylee in an air bubble, allowing them to breathe and walk on the bottom while using abilities that would otherwise be unavailable during swimming. Tubbz needs the smaller bubbles produced as that move begins. His request depends on interrupting the action before the complete surrounding bubble forms, rather than maintaining it as the duo would when crossing an underwater obstacle course. No Quills are charged for the Archive lesson.
Restoring Tubbz’s Bubbles
While submerged inside Tubbz, briefly press the Buddy Bubble control and release it before the full bubble closes around the duo. Repeat the short input to send small bubbles through the water. Holding the control continuously produces the usual protective bubble and does not perform the required sequence. On a controller, use the trigger assigned to Buddy Bubble; the precise button label depends on the platform and control setup. Watch the bath for the smaller bubbles rather than assuming that any visible bubble effect means the task has been completed. Once enough have been made, Tubbz reacts to the repair and the Cagie beside him opens. Climb out of the water and collect its single Pagie. The puzzle has no race course or timed target sequence, so the important distinction is the length of each button press. The pipes attached to the bath and the palace's wider heating system do not require another switch sequence after the duo have reached him.
Tubbz’s Conversation and Reward
Tubbz speaks in short, simple phrases and refers to himself by name. His explanation presents the missing bubbles as a gas problem, linking the broken bath with the flatulence humour behind Buddy Bubble. He responds appreciatively once the duo have helped, thanking the lizard and saying that he is working again. The gratitude ends with a complaint about the strange taste left by their solution, giving the apparently practical repair an unpleasant consequence for its recipient. In the remake, he also encourages the player as bubbles appear and explicitly acknowledges that the duo have made them. His dialogue keeps the focus on the bath's condition instead of setting up a further errand elsewhere in the palace. The nearby Pagie is the reward for restoring his function, while any Quills collected around him contribute separately to the world's total. Burnie's heating problem and Tubbz's bubble problem are connected by the access route, but each is resolved through its own encounter.
Tubbz in Yooka-Replaylee
Yooka-Replaylee retains Tubbz in the same branch of Icymetric Palace. After dealing with Brrreeze Blok, use the active steam vent in the room with the metal bars, enter the storage chamber and uncover the Bomb Plant in a large crate. Explosives clear the molten obstruction hiding the doorway in the far corner. The remake's tub has a darker body, red trim and bright star details, with the same large eyes watching the duo in the water. Four orange Quills are found in his room, compared with the original game's three Quills. His own reward remains one Pagie in the adjacent Cagie. The interrupted-bubble solution also remains: dive in, begin the underwater bubble ability and release it early until Tubbz's bubbles return. Since the remake makes the duo's normal moves available from the beginning, there is no need for the original backtracking trip to learn Buddy Bubble in Hivory Towers. The palace route still has its own obstacles, and possessing the move does not automatically light the vents or remove the blocked doorway.
