Capital Causeway is Chapter 1 of Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair. Its Grand Tome stands in Royal Stingdom, south of the Impossible Lair, and leads to a town of houses, balconies, bridges and pools. Yooka and Laylee begin inside a small house before descending into the streets, where the route introduces rolling attacks, roll-jumps, swimming, Checkmates, Laylee Bells and the five types of Ghost Quill challenge. Crates frequently serve as steps to otherwise inaccessible rooms, so destroying every box immediately can cut off a collectible route. Five T.W.I.T Coins are hidden in the standard chapter, and freeing Buzzerland from the prison near the large Capital B statue completes it. The same book later offers Capital Causeway - Chaos, a much more dangerous version with a separate set of five coins and a second Beettalion soldier, Cam Beegle. Factory Fright follows Capital Causeway in the chapter order. The two states have separate coin collections, and Trowzer accepts T.W.I.T Coins at his overworld paywalls.
Exploring Capital Causeway
The normal route alternates between the open streets and short indoor passages entered through green doors. Early flower cannons carry the pair over a stack of crates, and rolling into the upright bridge knocks it down to open the way onward. Some doors and rooms belong to the main route, while higher entrances conceal coin challenges. Falling platforms appear both inside buildings and beside their upper floors; climb them before they drop if you want to search above a doorway. Meanyions occupy the streets and rooms, with hovering enemies creating additional obstacles around the raised routes. The later pool introduces an underwater detour for quills before the route returns to rooftops. Near the end, search beyond the trapped bee for the bonus Quillion before breaking the prison, since releasing the soldier ends the chapter. Each rescued soldier adds another hit of protection to the Beettalion shield used in the Impossible Lair. Quillions are crowned quills worth ten ordinary quills each; spend quills on Tonics and Planker’s hints.
Checkmates and Laylee Bells
Activate Checkmates as you pass them to establish a return point after defeat. Use nearby bells to restore Laylee if she has flown away; several coin routes depend on her assistance, particularly the Buddy Slam through the hatch in Chaos. In the normal town, look for bells around the early swinging platform and after the central swimming area. In Chaos, bells help during the main swimming section and again near the underground pool. One bell in the early water route is released from a crate, so check the boxes at the pool's far end if Laylee is missing. Checkmate totals can differ when the More Checkmates or Less Checkmates tonic is equipped; the directions below use doors, pools and other landmarks instead of relying on one checkpoint numbering scheme.

T.W.I.T COINS
T.W.I.T Coin #01: Leave the starting house through the right-hand door and keep the crates immediately outside intact. Climb onto the tallest crate beside the house, then roll-jump left to the raised ledge above the doorway. Follow the passage into the hidden room to collect the first coin.
T.W.I.T Coin #02: Follow the main route through the streets until you reach the first green door. Enter the building and look above the stack of crates inside, where the second coin is visible. Jump onto the boxes to reach it before leaving through the opposite door to continue exploring the town.
T.W.I.T Coin #03: Find the building with two green doors and use the large crate beside the lower doorway to reach its upper entrance. Inside, activate the blue Ghost Quill and collect its quills across the dropping platforms before time runs out. Completing this challenge reveals the coin near the exit.
T.W.I.T Coin #04: Pass the Checkmate inside the middle building and leave through the right-hand door. Climb the three dropping platforms beside the building, then jump left into the hidden upper room. Collect the coin and both Quillions inside before returning to the main route below.
T.W.I.T Coin #05: After the swimming section, enter the final building and pass its Checkmate. Climb the dropping platforms and look left for a large crate blocking the recess in the upper-left corner. Break the crate and collect the coin; the yellow Ghost Quill trail nearby is a separate challenge.
QUILLIONS
- ✤ Above the swinging platform beside the first Laylee Bell
- ✤ Inside the suspended crate near the early outdoor Checkmate; use thrown fruit or bounce from a Meanyion to break it
- ✤ Inside the hidden room containing T.W.I.T Coin #04 (2)
- ✤ Above the jetpack enemy; bounce on it to reach the raised pair (2)
- ✤ Beyond Buzzerland’s prison; use the intact crates before freeing the soldier and ending the chapter
- ✤ Additional Quillions are awarded by the green, blue and yellow Ghost Quill challenges described below
GHOST QUILLS
Evie (Green): On the slope after the starting house, touch the green Ghost Quill to start its challenge. Evie moves away when first touched, so follow it down the slope and touch it a second time to finish the chase. Completing the chase awards a Quillion, which is worth ten ordinary quills.
Heidi (Blue): At the town entrance, touch the blue Ghost Quill and collect its moving quills for a Quillion. Another Heidi waits behind the upper of the two green doors, reached by climbing the intact crate outside. Complete its timed challenge across the dropping platforms for T.W.I.T Coin #03.
Ann-Gree (Red): After passing the early Laylee Bell and crossing the swinging platform, touch the red Ghost Quill and bounce on it to continue the challenge. Follow the sequence with four successive bounces to release the extra quills. This challenge rewards quills rather than a T.W.I.T Coin.
Normy (Yellow): Beyond the bridge, break the quill-marked crate below the stacked boxes and follow its yellow trail indoors around the hanging light for a Quillion. Another yellow trail starts after the last indoor Checkmate and leads across the dropping platforms in the final building to another Quillion.
Fee-Dee (Pink): Find the pink Ghost Quill above the pool containing Queen Phoebee’s statue. Touch it to activate the challenge, then follow the quills it releases beneath the surface of the water. Dive into the pool and swim along the underwater trail to gather the quills before returning to the town route.
Capital Causeway - Chaos
The altered state becomes available through the Blamphibian Angler in the overworld. Locate his fishing rod on the raised ledge above the first Planker near the starting area, then speak to the angler beside the cave on the beach's southeastern shore. Once he knows where his rod is, he returns to that ledge near Capital Causeway's Grand Tome. Go back and speak to him again: he casts into the book and pulls the town's buildings out of it, exposing the ruined stage. Another conversation puts them back and restores the normal chapter. The angler retrieves the rod himself after learning its location. Although Chaos retains the Chapter 1 number, reaching the beach makes its normal unlock much later than the original town. Its missing buildings expose longer stretches of water and underground passages, and the new route adds homing-missile launchers, swimming octopuses, helicopter enemies, fire pits, spiders, rotating spike traps and collapsing floors. Bombs, enemy bounces, ivy-covered walls and ropes are needed to reach its hidden areas and the final statue. At the end, climb the folding platforms under missile fire, swing across the rope to the upper-right ledge and break Cam Beegle's prison in front of the Capital B statue to complete the chapter.

T.W.I.T COINS
T.W.I.T Coin #01: At the start of Chaos, keep the crates on the left intact and climb them to get over the wall behind them. The first coin is hidden on the other side beside a homing-missile launcher. Avoid its missiles while collecting the coin, then use the rope to cross back to the main route.
T.W.I.T Coin #02: At the checkpoint between the pools, jump across the gap into the cannon behind the unbreakable crates. Complete its blue-quill challenge for a grenade, carry it around the underwater block past the octopuses, then surface beside the coin cage and blast it open.
T.W.I.T Coin #03: Beyond the pools, bounce on the jumping enemy to reach a grenade crate overhead. Carry the grenade right past the missile launcher and use it to defeat the helicopter. With Laylee present, Buddy Slam through the hatch beneath the enemy to reach the hidden coin.
T.W.I.T Coin #04: In the underground section, cross the pool with the swimming enemies and climb the ivy-covered wall at its far end. Avoid the spider near the top, then move right through the apparently solid wall just above the spider. Collect the coin in the room beyond and return to the ivy wall.
T.W.I.T Coin #05: Near the end of the underground route, find the weak platform just right of a jetpack enemy. Jump as it collapses to reach the coin and red Ghost Quill below. Bounce on the red quill and chain its successive bounces back up to the safe ledge rather than dropping towards the spikes.

GHOST QUILLS
Evie (Green): At the beginning of Chaos, use the crates on the left to reach T.W.I.T Coin #01 before breaking the boxes. The boxes release a green Ghost Quill and an explosive for the next section. Chase the green quill and catch it again to receive two Quillions, worth twenty ordinary quills.
Heidi (Blue): The hidden cannon above the pools leads to a blue Ghost Quill whose challenge supplies the grenade for T.W.I.T Coin #02. A second blue challenge waits on the underground ivy wall near a spider; collecting the quills in this sequence supplies a water projectile instead.
Ann-Gree (Red): Below the weak platform near the end of the underground section, the red Ghost Quill provides the route to T.W.I.T Coin #05. Jump as the floor collapses, collect the coin and chain successive bounces on the red Ghost Quill upwards to reach safety above the spike-filled pit.
Normy (Yellow): Look above the underground blue Ghost Quill challenge for a yellow Ghost Quill and follow its trail for a Quillion. Another yellow trail appears during the final climb beyond the last checkpoint. Follow it across the folding platforms while avoiding the homing missiles fired during the climb.
Fee-Dee (Pink): Beyond the fire pit and jetpack enemies, use the crates to reach the flower cannon above the hazard. The cannon carries Yooka and Laylee towards a pink Ghost Quill. Touch it and follow the quills it releases before returning to the main route through the ruined town.
